Apollinary Vasnetsov
1856–1933
Apollinary Vasnetsov, Viktor’s younger brother, worked in landscape, historical painting and theatre design and taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Travel and geology informed his attention to large natural forms. Crimean studies explore sunlight, rock structure and warm-cool colour relationships. Across historical views and landscapes he sought to combine knowledge of a place with coherent, convincing space.
