Isaak Brodsky

Isaak Brodsky studied with Repin and travelled through Europe after graduating from the Academy. Meeting Maxim Gorky brought him to Capri, where he painted Italy. Early work explored detailed objects, complex figure groups and older masters’ traditions. He developed that training while contemporaries pursued radical experiments. His European pictures reveal interests in landscape, family and daily life before his later prominence as an official Soviet painter.
