Shen Zhou
1427–1509

Shen Zhou founded the Wu school, a community of scholars and officials around Suzhou. He practised painting, calligraphy and poetry, often combining them in one work. His flowering crab apple scroll carries his own poem. The plant, inscription and handwriting reveal different aspects of his practice.
