Sōami

Soami lived in Kyoto and served as curator of the Ashikaga shoguns' collection. He closely studied Chinese Song and Yuan paintings. Small album leaves and handscrolls supplied compositions for large paintings in residences and temples. Changing their scale required a new relationship between landscape and architectural space.
