Jean-François Millet
1814–1875

Millet trained with Paul Delaroche in Paris and gained recognition with The Winnower at the 1848 Salon. From 1849 he worked mainly in Barbizon among landscape painters. His peasant subjects influenced Jozef Israëls and Van Gogh's early painting.
