Jules Tavernier

Tavernier trained with Félix-Joseph Barrias in Paris and adopted Barbizon painting from nature. Harper's Weekly sent him and Paul Frenzeny across the United States to illustrate the West. He settled in San Francisco in 1874 and cofounded the Monterey Peninsula Art Colony.
