Mikhail Klodt

1835–1914

Mikhail Petrovich Klodt concentrated on everyday subjects and human relationships. He should be distinguished from the landscape painter Mikhail Konstantinovich Klodt. While living in France he explored socially vulnerable lives, sometimes transferring stories to Russian settings. Turned Out into the Street uses the experience of a Parisian model. Objects, architecture and gesture connect personal misfortune with surrounding conditions and invite attentive sympathy.
