Yosa Buson
1716–1784

Buson grew up near Osaka, went to Edo to study poetry and travelled through northeastern Japan following Matsuo Basho's routes. He later taught poetry in Kyoto and painted professionally. Chinese printed manuals were among his sources of instruction.
