Canaletto
1697–1768

The son of a Venetian scene painter, Canaletto organized a workshop supplying views to travelers. English collectors were important patrons, and he repeatedly worked in England between 1746 and 1756. His nephew Bernardo Bellotto assisted him before establishing an independent career.
