Henri Rousseau
1844–1910
Rousseau was largely self-taught and worked in the Paris customs service. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants from 1886 to 1910. Younger artists and writers supported him, and Picasso held a banquet in his honor in 1908.
