Sandro Botticelli
about 1445–1510

Botticelli trained with Filippo Lippi and had his own workshop by 1470. Medici patrons and their circle commissioned ambitious secular paintings. In 1481 he was called to Rome to work in the Sistine Chapel, adding papal commissions to his Florentine practice.
