Paul Gauguin

Before making painting his principal occupation, Gauguin served in the merchant navy and worked as a stockbroker. He worked with Pissarro, joined later Impressionist exhibitions and developed Synthetism in Brittany. He first moved to Tahiti in 1891 and to the Marquesas in 1901.
