Pierre-Auguste Renoir
1841–1919

Renoir began by painting porcelain before studying in Charles Gleyre's Paris studio. Working with Monet on the Seine in 1869 helped him develop a lighter palette. Travel to Italy in 1881 encouraged a stronger interest in drawing and classical figure construction.
