Winslow Homer

Homer trained in a Boston lithography workshop before becoming a New York illustrator and Civil War artist-correspondent. After an extended stay in Cullercoats, England, in the early 1880s, he settled at Prouts Neck, Maine, where the sea and coastal life became central subjects.
